چکیده

Stroke and Blood Coagulation • A study of the coagulation parameters of 87 normal controls (ages 50 to 80) were compared with those of 33 patients with thrombotic stroke and 55 patients with diabetes mellitus of the same age distribution. There were no significant differences when tested for the influence of sex or age. Twenty-seven tests of clotting were done on each specimen, a total of 4,725. Significant differences were detected between normals versus patients with thrombotic stroke (fibrinogen level, glass clotting time, silicone clotting time, heparin tolerance, platelet count and retarded thromboplastin generation time BaSO4 1:50 dilution) and between normals versus patients with diabetes (prothrombin time, silicone clotting time, platelet count, thromboplastin generation time and retarded thromboplastin generation time) when subjected to computer analysis. The clinical significance of these differences is not of practical value in the diagnosis or as a guide to therapy for stroke. Additional

O10: Thrombo-Inflammation in Acute Ischemic Stroke

Ischemic stroke has been classified as a merely thrombotic disease, so the main goal of its treatment is the recanalization of the occluded vasculature. However, despite fast restoration of blood circulation, progressive stroke still develops in many patients, which has led to the concept of reperfusion injury.  The underlying mechanism is only partly known. Though, it is accepted now, tha...

A study of blood coagulation following an acute stroke.

A Study of Blood Coagulation Following an Acute Stroke • A battery of blood coagulation tests were performed on 14 acute stroke patients. Various abnormalities were found, notably elevation of blood fibrinogen, factor VIII, prothrombin, platelet factor 3, and a shortened P.T.T. The significance of these findings is discussed and they are considered to be of no importance since similar changes w...

Streptokinase for Treatment of Thrombotic Disorders: The End? Or the End of the Beginning?

Thrombotic disorders, such as myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, peripheral arterial disease, deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or other embolic diseases that are responsible for worldwide mortality and morbidity, are manifestations of the formed thrombi by blood clots during a pathologic blood coagulation process. Once thrombi are formed, the only way to resolve the blood clot i...

In Vitro and in Vivo studies of the Effects of Cold Argon Plasma on Decreasing the Coagulation Time

Introduction Cold plasma is a self-sterilized, painless, and non-contact method in surgeries. These properties allow it to be applied to the living tissues and heat-sensitive parts. The aim of this study was to design a new cold plasma producer device and evaluate the effects of cold argon plasma on decreasing the coagulation time of blood drop in vitro and that of the injured liver blood in vi...
